Dos Gatos Press published a new anthology: Big Land, Big Sky, Big Hair: Best of the Texas Poetry Calendar. It includes a poem of mine entitled Vanishing Over The Horizon:
Vanishing Over The Horizon
I believe in Texas as a state of mind
the wide deserts room for elbows
and other desires—
cowboys
lonely and rambunctious roping steer
repairing fences
then galloping wild
over
every post.
Kicking up heels the tap of boots
a mantra
there is space in my life for the unexpected to occur.
I close the magazine
saddle up my inner horse
and ride into the orange sun
vanishing
over the horizon
like a buffalo
into the glimmering fields.
